South Hobart FC Junior Academy

For players aged 4 to 6

NEW Junior Academy Mini Mortons is the first stage of training starting at Wellesley Park from 4:00pm to 5:00pm every Tuesday starting on 9 April 2024.

Especially designed for aspiring players aged 4 to 6, this program is an introduction to football. We aim to develop a life-long love of the game. Our coaches are motivated, qualified and relate well with young children. Junior Academy’s Mini Mortons (ages 4-6) promotes play in a supportive environment that fosters positive self-esteem and accomplishment.

This program educates children about the game in a non-competitive and nurturing environment with fun and friendship as its core philosophy. Research indicates that children who are involved in sports typically have a higher self-esteem, a more developed sense of cooperation and often make better life choices.

To keep kids interested sessions are highly dynamic and motivating for all players. There are quick changes of activities with clear, simple coaching points. Short breaks for a quick drink are also included.

Players are welcome to play for South Hobart Football Club in the Central Region Junior Football Association rosters, another club or your school.

Our Curriculum

  • introduction of passing skills, receiving skills, dribbling and shooting

  • ball control exercises that improve both feet and comfort on the ball

  • games that improve social interaction

  • natural development through playing football

  • fun games that increase coordination and awareness

Players can transition to the Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) program after their 7th birthday.

Before any fees are due or the training kit is purchased, children are welcome to try out one lesson for free to decide whether they would like to keep coming.

For players aged 7 to 12

Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) Program - Junior Academy

Full Junior Academy training restarted on Tuesday, 6 February 2024.

Morton’s Soccer School proudly provides coaching services for all South Hobart Football Club Academy programs.

If you are aged 7 to 12 and want to improve your skills then the South Hobart Junior Academy is for you. This program is an integral part of South Hobart FC’s player development program. All children are welcome, regardless of skill level.

The SAP program was developed by Football Federation Australia (FFA) specifically to improve the skills of children in the Under 9 to Under 12 age groups. Only approved clubs can offer SAP training. In our State this approval process is overseen by Football Tasmania (FT).

Both South Hobart Football Club (SHFC) and Morton’s Soccer School (MSS) share a common vision. The South Hobart Junior Academy is aimed at children wanting to be the best they can be, but to us it’s more than football. It’s about helping children grow to be good people in a safe and supportive values based football community. This philosophy, along with our skilled coaches, sets us apart from other SAP programs.

All children are welcome, regardless of skill level, but they must want to improve and have commitment, respect and humility. Children are welcome to try a session for free before enrolling.

Junior Academy is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:15pm to 5:45pm. Juniors Academy players are welcome to play for South Hobart FC, another club or their school.

BENEFITS

The major benefits of the South Hobart Junior Academy are:

  • Training follows the SAP curriculum, but with additional extended sessions

  • Age and skill level relevant groups

  • Children can join our programs at any time of the year

  • Players have more time on the pitch, with one hour, 30 minute sessions and no mid-term breaks, with catch up sessions offered during the school holidays

  • Program runs at the same time and venue as the Mini Mortons program. This makes it easier for siblings to train at the same time (great for parents too)

  • Children participating in the Junior Academy U9 to U12 age groups have the option of participating in the regional Cup competitions held each year in Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.
